A Tribe Called Quest is for “The People.”
After performing “We the People….” for the first time on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, ATCQ drops the politically-charged music video.
Surrounded by microphones and with Consequence and Busta Rhymes by his side, Q-Tip delivers a potent verse. “VH1 has a show that you can waste your time with,” rhymes The Abstract. “Guilty pleasures take the edge off reality / And for a salary, I’d probably do that shit sporadically.”
A mural of Phife Dawg is shown throughout his verse, while Tip, Bus’, and Cons’ rhyme along with the late rapper’s flow.
Throughout the clip, a slew of young people meet up to protest with large “We the People” signs filling up various streets.
Tribe’s final album, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, is expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week. The project features appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes, and Elton John.
