In the wake of President Trump’s feud with Snoop Dogg, Jussie Smollett unleashes a protest video against the current administration.
The “Empire” star’s self-directed black-and-white clip for “F.U.W.” (or “F#$*’d Up World”) features a diverse cast and images of slavery, racism, and other forms of injustice, juxtaposed by symbols of strength through unity.
“Build a wall, it won’t keep us from loving each other,” he sings. “Rewrite the laws / You won’t keep us from loving each other.”
His criticism of the current administration goes further as flames are projected around him. “Why we back in the past?” he sings. “It’s the same script, different cast / All these alternative facts / Catch me outside, how ’bout that?”
Smollett addressed the song’s video, which features a person wearing a Donald Trump mask by saying it’s not meant for promo.
“This is not a single. It’s not a song to promote the series,” he said. “It’s an artistic expression. My view of this sick cycle, an era in which we must fight our way out of before it’s too late. This view of unity is something they may never understand. That is why it is up to us. Train your daughters and sons to be soldiers of love, despite and in spite of this F#$*’d Up World.”
