Marian Hill’s “Down” has already been featured in an Apple commercial. Now, the Philadelphia-based duo’s piano-laden hit gets a remix from Big Sean.
In a near whisper, the Detroit spitter explains his stance on infidelity during his show-stopping verse. “Good guy, but for you, I’ll do the felonies,” raps Sean Don over the mesmerizing beat. “If you never test me, I’ll never cheat / I got enough faith to be faithful to you / If you not around, I’ll still save it for you.”
The aforementioned Apple ad, which features acclaimed dancer Lil Buck, helped Marian Hill become the most Shazam’d duo in the country. “That was really, really cool,” singer Samantha Gongol told Rolling Stone. “It’s just so beautiful — they nailed our aesthetic. Apple’s an iconic brand. We grew up watching those commercials. And [knowing that] artists have had incredible careers after [being featured in Apple ads] was really exciting to me.”
“Down,” which has been unofficially remixed by CyHi The Prynce, first appeared on MH’s Act One LP in 2016. But today, the group that also includes Jeremy Lloyd, released Act One (The Complete Collection) with new material, including their Big Sean collaboration and appearances by Steve Davit and Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui.
