Lecrae taps Tori Kelly for an inspirational duet with his latest single, “I’ll Find You.”
Over Frank E and Danny Majic’s head-knocking production, the Reach Records MC raps about death, pain, fear, and bitterness.
“Death’s knocking on the front door,” he raps. “Pain is creeping through the back / Fear is crawling through the windows, waiting for ’em to attack / They say, ‘Don’t get bitter, get better’ / I’m working on switchin’ them letters / But tell God I’ma need a whole lot of hope keeping it together.”
With an angelic voice, Tori offers the song’s infectious and optimistic chorus. “Just fight a little longer, my friend,” she sings. “It’s all worth it in the end / When you got nobody to turn to / Hold on, and I’ll find you.”
Lecrae explained the song’s overall message. “Life is a precious gift,” he said. “A gift we often take for granted until it is threatened. Pain can be haunting reminder to appreciate every waking moment. So we wrote a song to share our hope in the midst of that pain.”
According to Lecrae, the song took on an additional significance due to real life events that unfolded while it was being crafted. “At the time of this song’s composition some of our loved ones were battling cancer,” he added. “We wanted to encourage them to hold on, and tell them we are here waiting, hoping, praying, and fighting with them. Some have been released from their pain forever, others are still fighting. Hold on.”
“I’ll Find You” follows Lecrae’s Ty Dolla $ign-assisted single “Blessings,” also off his forthcoming album.
“This album is me just being me,” he told Rap-Up in January. “I was blessed with the opportunity to work with pretty much anybody I wanted to. I was fortunate to do that. I got to handpick and work with different people and I got to write over 100 songs. I got to say everything I needed to say and then I had to figure out what songs would make it.”
