Following a weekend full of performances from Missy Elliott, Frank Ocean, Erykah Badu, and A Tribe Called Quest, Solange helped close out Day 3 of FYF Fest at Exposition Park in Los Angeles on Sunday (July 23). Two years after last performing at the festival, the R&B songstress returned to the stage with a feel-good set celebrating black empowerment and identity.

With family members Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Blue Ivy, and Tina Lawson in the audience, the 31-year-old songstress delivered an hour-long show in support of 2016’s critically-acclaimed album A Seat at the Table. Dressed in all red and basking under red lights, she was joined by her eight-piece band including a drummer, keyboardists, and brass players. She opened with “Rise,” followed by “Weary” and “Cranes in the Sky,” performing synchronized dance moves with her two backup singers.

Solo took it back with “Some Things Never Seem to Fucking Work” off her 2010 EP True. For the anthemic “F.U.B.U.,” she went into the crowd and performed the song while standing in front of black female fans. By the end of the rousing performance, there were 20 band members on stage, all dressed in red.

She continued with True‘s “Locked in Closets” and “Bad Girl.” “I had to make sure my wig was still on,” she said after one dance-heavy number.

Longtime fans were thrilled to hear her sing a portion of the theme song to Disney’s “The Proud Family” along with “T.O.N.Y.” off 2008’s Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams.

She capped off the enchanting evening with the funky “Losing You,” followed by A Seat at the Table‘s “Don’t Touch My Hair.”

“Thank you so much L.A.,” said Solange, who is set to headline the Hollywood Bowl in September. “I hope you leave feeling a little better than you came.”
