Mr. Dollar and a Dream makes dreams come true.
Recently, a man named Robert Griffin reached out to J. Cole through Dreamville rapper Bas with a touching request for his son Collin who was “just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.”
“All he wants is to meet J. Cole,” Griffin tweeted. “Please help me Bas.” A few hours later, Bassy replied: “Check your DMs champ.”
Just days after this online interaction, Griffin’s son met with J. Cole and Bas backstage at one of the “4 Your Eyez Only Tour” stops. “Dreamville truly is a family,” wrote Griffin. “They made my sons dream come true tonight. I will never be able to thank you all enough. Much Love!”
Photos from the meeting show the young man speaking with and embracing his favorite rapper. Sitting beside him, Cole also signed autographs for young Collin.
After meeting Cole, Griffin explained that his son isn’t terminally ill and that they plan on his recovery. “Terminal is the wrong frame of mind bro,” he tweeted. “we gonna beat this.”
J. Cole has rapped about this type of interaction before. “One time for my granny up in heaven tonight and the young boy from a show down in Hampton,” he raps on “Roll Call.” “Told me that my song was the reason he beat cancer / Ain’t know what to say, I just froze / Little too deep, I suppose / But after a year of review / I figured out it wasn’t me, it was you, ni**a / Congratulations!”
Griffin’s family has also set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising money for medical expenses. So far, the campaign has raised $16,806 dollars of its $20,000 goal.
Featuring Anderson .Paak (on select dates), Bas, J.I.D., and Ari Lennox, the “4 Your Eyez Only Tour” is set to continue through Aug. 20, when it comes to an end in Dallas.
