In honor of Food & Liquor II’s fifth anniversary, Lupe Fiasco unleashes his politically-charged track “Running From President.”
Over a head-knocking instrumental from longtime collaborator Soundtrakk, Carrera Lu delivers a quick rhyme that references the European Union, Brexit, and the current United States administration. “Trump on acid,” he raps. “Didn’t mean to gas it.”
Fiasco recently spoke on the political commentary of Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1. “1st words on the Grammy Nominated ‘Food&Liquor2’: ‘I can’t pledge allegiance to yo flag cuz I cant find no reconciliation wit yo past.'”
The tweet came in the wake of President Donald Trump calling for the firing of any player that knelt during the national anthem as an extension of Colin Kaepernick’s protest against police brutality and inequality in this country.
Lupe’s fourth album, F&LII, arrived Sept. 25, 2012, featuring songs like “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” “Bitch Bad,” and “Battle Scars.”
This year, Fiasco unleashed his sixth album, Drogas Light, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Big K.R.I.T. and Rick Ross, among others.
