As one of Philadelphia’s rising stars, Blac Papi has been making a name for himself with his video for “10 Toes Down.” Now, he pulls back the “Curtains” on his latest visual. In the black-and-white clip, directed by DevkamerA, Papi reflects on his come-up.
“Lately, I been puttin’ all this work in / Out the mud, but still puttin’ dirt in,” he raps. “Never see me out ’cause I be workin’ / Tryna cop a wheel with the curtains.”
He explained the inspiration behind the inspirational anthem. “The word ‘curtains’ in my mind symbolizes better days,” he told Rap-Up. “At the back of every foreign car that I like such as the Maybach or a Rolls-Royce you find curtains, but it’s much bigger than a car, it’s the level of life that we are striving to reach.
“The video touches on my focus when I first came home from jail and what I’ve accomplished a short two years later. The song is about being focused and consistent and not losing your concentration no matter what is going on around you. No matter the little progress you make as you go along on your journey, you never forget about the overall picture.”
Papi, who has opened for Cam’ron, 21 Savage, and Jeezy, is now readying his 9-track EP, Undeniable, for release on July 13 featuring collaborations with Juvenile (“Why They Hate Me”) and Poundside Pop (“Pop Shit”). See the tracklisting below.
