Fresh off the release of her new album Sweetener, Ariana Grande brought her art to life with a powerful performance of “God Is a Woman” at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.

Joined onstage by a diverse group of 50 female backup dancers, the pop goddess opened the set by recreating The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, while seated at a long table. She also put her twist on Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam, ending the spiritual set by standing side by side with her grandmother, mother, and aunt, who all held hands.

Grande, who was nominated for five awards, took home the award for Best Pop for “No Tears Left to Cry.” During her speech, she thanked boyfriend Pete Davidson “for existing.” The couple showed PDA while making their red carpet debut earlier in the night.

Grande’s new album Sweetener is out now featuring appearances from Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, and Pharrell.
