A fan made a run for Beyoncé and JAY-Z during their “On the Run II” tour.

Panic ensued as the Carters were exiting the stage following their performance at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday (Aug. 25). During the last moments of “APESHI*T,” an overzealous fan in a white jersey jumped on stage and tried to approach the couple as they headed backstage.

But backup dancers were quick to respond, chasing the man as he ran towards Bey and JAY before security joined in moments later. Concertgoers, who posted footage of the incident on social media, initially thought a fight was breaking out on stage.

Police eventually detained the 26-year-old man, named Anthony Charles Thomas Maxwell, and wrote up a citation for disorderly conduct. He was not taken into custody.

Maxwell apparently made some sort of contact with JAY-Z during the melee, but Bey’s rep assured fans that the couple was fine. “Thank you to all the fans for your concern,” the singer’s publicist wrote on Instagram. “They are fine and looking forward to the show tomorrow.”

Beyoncé and JAY-Z are in the middle of their “On the Run II” tour, which returns for a second night in Atlanta on Sunday and continues through Oct. 4 in Seattle.
