SiR teams up with his TDE labelmate Kendrick Lamar on his new single “Hair Down.”
The Inglewood sensation reps his West Coast roots on the confident and soulful groove. “Baby, I’m just tryna let my hair down,” he sings, while new dad Kendrick adds his laid-back flow. “Hair down like Vanity / I got the fuck ups / I got the damage fees,” he raps.
In the accompanying video, SiR plays an NBA star, who’s involved in a marijuana use scandal. He rides through the L.A. streets in his hovercraft car, smoking and kissing babies. Kendrick doesn’t show his face, delivering his verse while shrouded in a hoodie.
Speaking to Beats 1, SiR opened up about collaborating with Kung Fu Kenny. “He did exactly what he’s supposed to do, man. The song is about being confident in yourself, and he’s living his life and he definitely let it be known in that verse,” said SiR. “I’m a huge fan, I don’t even got to really say it. You should’ve seen me in a session when he was recording his verse, I’m sitting there like a kid. I was just trying to soak it all in.”
TDE has partnered with RCA Records to release SiR’s upcoming album Chasing Summer, the follow-up to his 2018 debut November, which will have some “crazy features.”
“I’m hands on with everything, doing my own mixing and my own recording,” he said. “I took my time with this and it shows in the work, and I’m ready to let everybody see what we’ve been working on. It’s a long time coming, so I’m definitely excited.”
Chasing Summer arrives Aug. 30.
