Ari Lennox brought her soulful stylings to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.
Despite being a little under the weather, Dreamville’s First Lady delivered a stellar four-song set of tracks off her critically-acclaimed debut Shea Butter Baby.
Backed by a five-piece band, the D.C. songstress opened with “Speak to Me” before continuing with the explicit “Pop.” “I know you’re in here and you’re a little young, but this next song is called ‘Pussy Pop.’ Here we are, Jesus,” she laughed while introducing the latter.
After performing “New Apartment,” she capped off her soulful set with her breakout hit “Shea Butter Baby,” which she dedicated to her “natural brown queens.” “I made it for us ’cause we sexy and fine and I feel like a lot of people sleep on our gloriousness,” she told the crowd.
