Drake is not letting the haters get him down.
While surprising the crowd at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium on Sunday, the rapper received a not-so-warm welcome. After performing a few songs, he was booed by a group of fans who were hoping to see Frank Ocean instead.
“If you want to keep going,” he said, “I will keep going tonight.”
But the boos got louder, prompting him to end his set 20 minutes early. Before leaving, a gratuitous Drake thanked the crowd. “It’s been love,” he said. “I love ya’ll. I go by the name of Drake. Thank you for having me.”
Despite the incident, Drake is not letting it get to him. According to DJ Akademiks, he is “taking it in stride” and called it a “moment of humility which is always welcomed.” Added Drake, “[It] was just not my night. Wasn’t who they wanted to see.”
Tyler, the Creator, who invited Drake to perform at his festival, ripped the Camp Flog Gnaw crowd for their “rude” behavior. “I THOUGHT BRINGING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST ON THE FUCKING PLANET TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL WAS FIRE!” he tweeted. “BUT FLIPSIDE, A LIL TONE DEAF KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CROWD IT DREW. SOME CREATED A NARRATIVE IN THEIR HEAD AND ACTED OUT LIKE ASSHOLES WHEN IT DIDNT COME TRUE AND I DONT FUCK WITH THAT.”
Added Tyler, “THAT SHIT WAS LIKE MOB MENTALITY AND CANCEL CULTURE IN REAL LIFE AND I THINK THAT SHIT IS FUCKING TRASH.”
