Lupe Fiasco Claims He's a Better Lyricist Than Kendrick Lamar

BY Devin / 9.21.2020

Lupe Fiasco is sparking another contentious debate over Kendrick Lamar.

It all started when someone on Twitter asked who was a better lyricist, Lupe Fiasco or Kendrick Lamar. The Chicago MC responded, “Lupe but…” before deleting the tweet.

But his comment didn’t go unnoticed. Punch, who is president of Kendrick’s label TDE, responded to Lupe, writing, “Lol.”

After his name began trending on Twitter, Lupe decided to clear up his comments. While he has respect for Kendrick as an artist, he feels that he is a superior lyricist.

“In my own words…once again for you bitches…I love me some KDot…always have always will,” he explained. “With that said do think I he’s a good lyricist? Yes. Do I think he’s the best lyricist? No. Do I think it’s lyricists that are better than him? Yes. Is he a better artist than me? Yes.”

Added Lupe, “Is he a better lyricist than me? No. Does he make better songs than me? Yes. Did I think control was ridicule? No. Am I jealous of Kdot? No. Did I personally give him his props in chicago on stage as the next ni**a to take the crown? YES. Is It on camera? Yes. Did I mean it? Yes.”

He went on to call them both “legends” and said that Section.80 is his favorite Kendrick album and TDE is his favorite label.

This is not the first time Lupe has expressed his sentiments about K-Dot. In 2012, he crowned Kendrick the “next big thing.” However, by 2014, he claimed that Logic, King Los, and Cassidy were better lyricists than the Compton MC.

“KDot is not a top tier lyricists to me and my standards when it comes to punchlines and bars,” Lupe said in 2018. “His overall lyrics are good his stories phenomenal BUT punchline entire lyrically I don’t see it.”

Next up, Lupe plans to release trap music after being inspired by Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert. “I felt like picking up a new hobby and area of rap that i never really took serious serious but I’ve been studying and making sketches,” he told fans.
