On the eve of his album release, Common stopped by Power 106’s L.A. Leakers to spit a nearly eight-minute freestyle.
Over Raekwon’s “Incarcerated Scarfaces,” the rap veteran shouted out Naomi Osaka and Rihanna (“Rihanna got a bill / They gotta deal with the sisters”), while paying tribute to the late Biz Markie.
“Damn he near an EGOT, and he still hip-hop,” raps Common. “I’m a rap god, but still human like the beat box.”
The beat then switched up as the Chicago MC showed off more of his off-the-top flow over Group Home’s “Livin’ Proof.” “Kaepernick of this rap shit, you see I ain’t playing with these goofy ass rappers,” he continued. “I do movies, I know actors / It’s all on your face, you ain’t never been proactive.”
Common’s new album A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2 drops tonight featuring Brittany Howard, Black Thought, and PJ.
“A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2 was created with hope and inspiration in mind,” he said. “I thought about what being still in these times had brought me and that was a peace beyond understanding, a greater love for self, a closer connection with God, and more appreciation for my family, friends, and the simple things in life.”
