Kelly Rowland: The Good Diva

Kelly Rowland will reveal her inner diva when Ms. Kelly: Diva Deluxe, the re-release of her sophomore album, arrives at digital retailers on March 25th. The set includes five new tracks and two remixes.

Before she jetted off to Europe, chatted with the “good diva” about being a hot topic on blogs, moving overseas, politics, and those pesky Playboy rumors.

What can people expect from the Ms. Kelly re-release?

The re-release definitely has more to offer as far as new material is concerned. Basically, I did remixes of some of the records on the album that I absolutely love that no one’s gotten a chance to hear yet. I have more on there for my fans.

Why the title Diva Deluxe?

I felt like there was so much more to offer on this record as far as different sounds are concerned. I did dance mixes. I did songs on the album that the fans will probably never expect, so I had to put that diva stank on there.

Would you consider yourself a diva?

A good diva [laughs]! There are many different types of divas, so I’m the good diva.

What are your favorite songs on the re-release?

My favorite records would have to be “Love Again” and this record I did with Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes called “Daylight.”

Why did you decide to do a digital release for this album?

To be closer to my fans. It seems like everybody is online, more so than people physically going to buy a record, so I wanted to make it accommodating for my fans.

Do you buy music from iTunes?

I do buy music on iTunes. I also still buy CDs.

What’s the last song you purchased off iTunes?

Let me look. I have my computer right in front of me… It was “No Air” with Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks. I really like that song.

Any other recent purchases?

I bought Alicia Keys’ album and I love that album.

What’s on your iPod right now?

Marvin Gaye and I watch “Family Guy.”

Do you go on the Internet often?

I go on the Internet…sometimes. You mean on blog sites?

No, some blog sites are negative.

Do you read the comments?

I used to, but I don’t anymore ‘cause it seems like some people who have nothing to do would rather write negative things.

Do you get hurt by any of the negativity?

I used to, but I’ve had to grow up in this industry. I think that I’ve developed some thick skin. I realize it’s not me that people are attacking, it’s really themselves. I just think that it’s a reflection of how they feel about themselves. I can’t help nobody fix their lives, but I guess it makes them feel better to attack somebody else. If they want to attack me, then go right on.

Any plans to tour?

Hopefully. I definitely know I’ll be touring in Europe later on this year, which I’m really excited about. I love going to Europe and I love performing over there.

It seems like you’re in Europe more than you are in the U.S. Would you agree?

That is correct. “Work” is like a top ten record over there, so I have to be over there. I want to make sure I let my fans overseas know that I never forget about them. They’ve been so supportive.

Can you see yourself moving out there?

I definitely want a place out there. I’ve already started looking for a place out there. I love it so much.

Are you working on any other projects aside from the album?

As of right now, no. I’m really focused on this record. If a movie or TV opportunity presents itself, then I would be so excited.

The U.S. presidential elections are coming up. Who are you voting for?

It’s a personal question. That’s so political. I think that’s so personal.

Do you think celebrities should discuss politics?

I think that it’s a personal preference. If you feel like you want to be outspoken about that, then go right ahead. I think there’s nothing wrong with that, but it depends on the person. For me, I like to keep it personal.

There was a rumor that you’re posing for Playboy.

Yeah, I’m not doing that [laughs]. And that’s with all due respect to Playboy. I’m not doing Playboy. That’s just a rumor.

Did Playboy ever approach you?

I was never approached.

Have you had a chance to visit Beyoncé on the set of her new movie, Cadillac Records?

I haven’t yet. I actually just came back from being out on the road and I leave for Europe tomorrow, so I missed this set. And I’m on the set of every movie, so trust me, I feel bad.

Has B heard the re-release of Ms. Kelly?

Yes, she has. Her and Michelle.

Michelle is releasing a new album soon, right?

Yes, and it’s a great record. People are going to be really shocked. I’m so proud of her.

Have you heard any of Beyoncé’s new album?

She let me hear some songs that she just started to record and play around with.

What else would you like to tell your fans?

Thank you so much for supporting myself and Destiny’s Child individually as well as collectively in the past. I look forward to seeing all of my fans really soon. I guess more than anything a big, big special thank you to all who supported me. That means a lot to stick by you for so many years. It’s been 12 years and I appreciate them being there since the beginning.
