Kid Cudi is spreading his wings and unleashing his inner rock star on his next album. But despite the evolution, fans can look forward to at least one familiar face on the raging record.
Jim Jonsin spoke to staging-rapup.kinsta.cloud about two tracks that he produced for the “Day ‘N’ Night” rapper’s sophomore effort Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, due this fall. “We did one song together, which is kind of rock-influenced,” said the super-producer. “It was something I wanted to do with him and just see where he would go.”
His mentor Kanye West also recently jumped on another Jonsin production, which borrows from one of the most successful bands of the ’80s. “We did another record where I sampled a Duran Duran record,” the “Whatever You Like” hitmaker revealed. “Kanye and Kid Cudi supposedly did that in the studio together and killed it.”
Jim compared Cudi’s blending of sounds to B.o.B’s genre-bending album B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. “It’s a mix. It’s kind of some club stuff, some hip-hop traditional rap stuff, and then some rock-pop stuff. He’s goin’ everywhere,” he explained.
The Cleveland native is also making a return to the small screen on HBO’s “How to Make It in America,” which has been renewed for a second season.
