Rico Love will celebrate the launch of his new Universal Motown-backed label Division 1 with a private party hosted by Usher in Miami tomorrow. Rap-Up TV caught up with the “There Goes My Baby” hitmaker at a Los Angeles studio to discuss his new venture and the imprint’s first signing, former Young Gunz member Young Chris.
“I was always a fan of Young Chris,” Rico told Rap-Up TV. “I was so excited to be able to help his dream come true and kinda give him the album that we both never had.”
The “Just a Dream” producer, who contributed seven songs to Nelly’s 5.0, is also thrilled over the St. Louis MC’s resurgence. “I’m so excited about this one because it’s my opportunity to laugh in the face of the haters,” he said. “When I told people I was working on the project, there were a few celebs and a few artists who were like, ‘Yo, that’s a waste of time.’ And now everybody’s eating those words.”
