Kehlani Performs 'Honey' at Billboard Women in Music

  /  12.01.2017

Kehlani performed a sweet rendition of “Honey” at the Billboard Women in Music event in Los Angeles on Thursday (Nov. 30), where she was also honored for her rule-breaking ways.

Stunning in a red pantsuit over a sheer black top, the SweetSexySavage star performed her buzz single with an acoustic guitarist. It was an intimate performance in front of her idols, like Kelly Clarkson and Mary J. Blige. Later, she would thank those stars after receiving the Rule Breaker Award.

Presented with a “glass thingy” by longtime mentor and “guardian angel” Nick Cannon, Lani went on to deliver a heartfelt speech about her rise to success. “Breaking rules, in a positive light, is so important to me,” she said. “Thank you for acknowledging in a positive way.”

Taking to Instagram, Lani called this a “personal victory.” “mental health stole a lot of my joy/peace for a long time,” she wrote. “I was Invited so many places and didn’t show up because I couldn’t bring myself to leave my room.. to the point I think people even stopped inviting me lol so to be here, present, confident, HAPPY & ABLE… after swearing to my folks ‘yo I dont ever think I could do anything like that’ …in this moment ain’t nothin more important to me.. anyone goin thru something right just know there is light at the end of the tunnel, you keep fighting and loving and one day.. you’ll get all that love back. this is personal victory.”

Lani wasn’t the night’s only performer. Kelly Clarkson and Camila Cabello also performed at the event, where Selena Gomez was honored as Woman of the Year.
