Mariah Carey Throws Shade at Eminem on 'Obsessed' Anniversary

  /  06.17.2021

Mariah Carey is throwing some shade at Slim Shady.

In honor of the 12th anniversary of her hit single “Obsessed,” the pop superstar posted a video inspired by last year’s viral #WipeItDownChallenge, soundtracked by a remix of BMW Kenny’s TikTok hit and her own song. In the clip, Mimi wipes down her mirror while dressed in a robe with curlers in her hair.

“And I was like, why you so obsessed with me?” she asks before switching into full glam.

After another wipe, Mimi transforms into her Eminem-esque persona from her famed “Obsessed” music video, complete with facial hair.

“Just for laughs… from last year’s lockdown when all I did was wipe tings down,” she captioned the clip, adding the hashtag “#HappyAnniversaryObsessed.”

While it may be all in good fun, Mariah and Eminem have a contentious past. In the early 2000s, they were rumored to have a romantic relationship, which Mariah has denied. Marshall Mathers took shots at MC on “Superman” and “When the Music Stops” off his 2002 album The Eminem Show, while she fired back on “Clown.”

“You should’ve never intimated we were lovers,” she sang on the song off 2002’s Charmbracelet. “When you know very well we never even touched each other.”

Seven years later, Em dissed Mariah and her then-husband Nick Cannon on “Bagpipes From Bagdad” off his 2009 album Relapse, which inspired “Obsessed” off 2009’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. In the video, Mariah dressed in men’s clothing while playing her stalker, a character that drew comparisons to Eminem.

A decade later, Slim Shady reignited their feud by dissing Mariah and Nick on Fat Joe’s 2019 song “Lord Above.” “I know me and Mariah didn’t end on a high note / But that other dude’s whipped, that pussy got him neutered,” he rapped. “Tried to tell him this chick’s a nut job ‘fore he got his jewels clipped / Almost got my caboose kicked, fool, quit, you not gon’ do shit / I let her chop my balls off too ‘fore I lost to you, Nick.”
