Is this Chance the Rapper’s busiest year yet? First came his Donnie Trumpet collaborative project Surf, and then his recent Free mixtape with Lil B. Now he keeps the flow of new music going strong with “Israel (Sparring),” a collaboration with Noname Gypsy.
Over unobtrusive percussion, the two trade gentle, thoughtful bars on the subject of combat, religion, and race. Chance reflects on race in ancient Egypt—”I don’t need to see a Sphinx to know their noses was black.”
Noname Gypsy covers similar territory, rapping cryptically about looking for “the son of God in bottle caps.”
Don’t miss Chance on his “Family Matters” tour, starting Oct. 11 in Austin.
