L.A. Reid Exits Epic Records

  /  05.11.2017

L.A. Reid is out at Epic Records.

After joining the record company in 2011, the music executive is ending his six-year run with the label, according to Variety.

As the chairman/CEO of Epic Records, Reid signed and worked with artists like Future, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Diddy, and DJ Khaled, among others.

His departure comes as a surprise. Reid and Sony have not commented on the move as of yet. Meanwhile, Billboard reports that Reid is leaving Sony Music Group altogether.

Members of the Epic staff and DJ Khaled acknowledged his departure by posting a video on Instagram that reads: “We love you L.A. Reid.”

Reid started out as a musician in the early 1980s. Since then, he founded LaFace Records with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and led Arista Records as an influential force in the careers of OutKast, TLC, Usher, Mariah Carey, and P!nk, among others.

In 2004, Reid left Sony/BMG and became the chairman and CEO of The Island Def Jam Music Group, where he worked with the likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Jay Z, and Kanye West. He was there until 2011, when he became the chairman and CEO of Epic Records.

Last year, Reid released The New York Times bestseller, Sing to Me: My Story of Making Music, Finding Magic, and Searching for Who’s Next.
