Wale has been on a high since his sophomore album Ambition debuted at the top of the charts earlier this month. In the second part of our interview, the Maybach Music signee spoke about his tight bond with J. Cole, advice from the Bawse, and what’s next for him.
“That’s my brother,” Wale told Rap-Up TV of the Roc Nation rapper. “We talked the day his album leaked, we talked the day my album leaked, we talked the day his album came out, we talked when his projections came out… We always gonna be like this no matter what.”
He also spit some bars from an unreleased collaboration with Cole called “Traffic Jam.” “It’s a dope lil’ jump that sounds like it came out in the ’90s,” he explained.
Another one of his close associates, Rick Ross, instilled a strong work ethic in him, while also reminding him to get more sleep. “Ross is one of the more creative people that I’ve worked with, so I’m happy to have him on the squad,” he said of his label boss.
Now that his album is in stores, Wale has been touring and working on MMG’s Self Made, Vol. 2 compilation plus a new project with the producer who discovered him, Mark Ronson. “I’m also working on another project with Mark Ronson, so check out for that,” he teased.
