Tiara Thomas burst onto the scene with 2013’s hit collaboration with Wale, “Bad.” Since then, the multi-talented star (she sings, writes, produces, and plays guitar) signed to Rico Love’s Division1/Interscope label before pursuing her career as an independent artist. On Aug. 12, the Indianapolis native will release her new EP Up in Smoke. The nine tracks feature production from Ryan “Ryghteous” Tedder, Swagg R’celious, and Warren “Oak” Felder.
On the eve of release, the “Girl Code” star stopped by Rap-Up HQ to do the whip and nae nae with Silentó (more on that later) and tell us what we can expect from her new music.
“It’s my first project that I feel is totally me in my life right now,” Tiara told Rap-Up TV.
One of the standout tracks is the somber, yet sexy “Nikki” about a girl who’s heartbroken. “I had to turn myself into Nikki,” she said. “It’s just a broken bitch story is what it is.”
She also sounded off on the state of R&B and why she wants to tour with Young Thug. “He just sounds fun, and he’s real ratchet, and I be going through some ratchet phases,” she confessed.
Another rapper she would like to collaborate with is Future. “I think it would be dope to write with Future. He’s a good songwriter. He has the craziest melodies and hooks, so I’d be really into that. I like his lyrics, too. The stuff that he’s talking about is real simple, but you be really feeling yourself when you listen to that.”
