JAY-Z Explores Love, Manhood, & Therapy in 'Footnotes for MaNyfaCedGod'

  /  08.14.2017

JAY-Z continues to explore 4:44’s complex themes with the introspective “Footnotes for MaNyfaCedGod.”

Much like past “Footnotes,” the 7-minute clip is star-studded, featuring appearances and insights from Jesse Williams, Chris Rock, Anthony Anderson, Mack Wilds, Meek Mill, and more.

“Daily Show” host Trevor Noah opens up about perceptions and perspectives. “I wish women knew how damaged we are by our perception of what a man is supposed to be,” he says, “by our fathers, by our uncles, by our brothers, by the world around us, by our friends.”

Meanwhile, JAY-Z attempts to break the stigma that is often associated with therapy. “We can’t go to get therapists,” he says. “You crazy at that point. It’s like, a psychiatrist? You crazy. No, you need help. Three of your brothers are dead and your mother used to beat you. You need help. Someone needs to talk you through why you’re feeling these feelings.”

“Footnotes” follows the evocative black-and-white visual for “MaNyfaCedGod” starring Lupita Nyong’o. Go behind the emotional James Blake-assisted dedication to Beyoncé below.
