Rap-Up.com || Jay-Z Tops Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Kings List

Jay-Z is having the best week ever. With Watch the Throne set to debut at No. 1 on the charts, the rap titan also reigns atop Forbes’ annual Cash Kings list.

The magazine has declared the Roc Nation mogul as hip-hop’s top earner with $37 million made in the past 12 months. He tops the list for the fourth time in five years thanks to tour sales, his ongoing $150 million Live Nation deal, and stakes in the New Jersey Nets and 40/40 club.

Following in close second is hip-hop impresario Sean “Diddy” Combs, who banked $35 million in the past year with roughly half of his earnings coming from Ciroc vodka.

Jay’s partner in rhyme Kanye West claims third place, returning to the top three for the first time since 2009. Lil Wayne ties with his YMCMB comrade Birdman for fourth ($15 million), Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg rack up $14 million each, and Wiz Khalifa, Pitbull, and B.o.B are among the new entries.

Nicki Minaj becomes the first female to make the list at No. 15 with $6.5 million. The Young Money diva burst onto the scene with her platinum debut Pink Friday, tours with Lil Wayne and Britney Spears, and endorsement deals with M•A•C Cosmetics and Casio.

Snoop Dogg is outstanding. He’s been on that game for ever, and he still draws an astonishing amount of cash, while still being very active in Hip-Hop (unlike monsters like Diddy, Jay, Dre, etc., who are making big part of their revenues via non-Hip-hop activities, such as Ciroc, Live Nation, Beats by Dre, etc.). I’m not SD’s biggest fan, but you gotta respect his hustling ways.

LMAO at Ciroc making more money for Diddy than almost all of the second half of that Top 20. He’s been past his prime for a long time as far as rapping goes, but I guess a business mind never goes away.

The Nicki stans brought up Kim when her name wasn’t even on the list, just simply pathetic. But let’s be real. Nicki has endorsement deals out the ass, her singles are getting massive airplay and being certified Gold and Platinum and she’s featured on every other song on the radio so why wouldn’t her net worth be $10 million in 2 years of being in the spotlight? Kim had endorsement deals but they weren’t as massive as Nicki’s, Kim doesn’t have as many certified singles as Nicki. Yes, Kim’s net worth is $20 million but her’s is mostly from album sales. That’s how Kim became an hip-hop legend, by being one of like 5 female MC’s to actually sell albums and sell them well, not by selling singles, not by jumping on everybody’s song and not by having so many endorsement deals. In 2011, it’s simply more marketable just to have your face or name on something like Nicki where as in the 90s and even the early 2000s, you marketed yourself with album sales and critical acclaim from your album, the two things Kim has but Nicki doesn’t.
