New Music: Macklemore - 'Wednesday Morning'
Macklemore gets political once again.
This time, the often conscious rapper takes on this year’s election and its aftermath with the Budo-produced track “Wednesday Morning.”
“Humanity is a privilege, we can’t give in,” he raps. “When they build walls, we’ll build bridges / This is resistance, we’re resilient / When they spread hate, we shine brilliant.”
The Seattle rapper’s reference to a wall reinforces his opposition to President-elect Donald Trump, who claims he will have a wall built along the border between the U.S. and Mexico.
“Wednesday Morning” clearly refers to the morning after Election Day, but it also touches on what Macklemore feels will impact his young daughter’s life. “Imagine trying to keep your head,” he raps. “While your daughter sleeps in bed / When she wakes up, will the world be the same?”
The election has a lot of rappers talking. In fact, last night, Kanye West revealed that he would have voted for Trump if he had voted at all.
But the election isn’t the only thing on Macklemore’s mind. He also hit “The Tonight Show” on Thursday (Nov. 17) to deliver “Drug Dealer,” his anti-big pharma track, along with special guests Ariana DeBoo and The Roots.
