Video: Lorde - 'Green Light'

  /  03.02.2017

Lorde is back and she’s dancing through the night in the video for “Green Light,” the lead single from her second full-length album Melodrama.

With her head out of a black SUV window, the 20-year-old songstress can’t wait to break free. “I can’t let go,” she sings. “I’m waiting for it, that green light / How I wish I could get my things and just let go.”

Dancing through the city, in a bathroom, at the club, and on top of a car, Lorde continues to sing about the “green light” she’s searching for, until the sun is rising behind her above a highway.

Directed by Grant Singer, the music video is meant to embody the song’s message. “i am so proud of this song,” she tweeted. “it’s very different, and kinda unexpected. it’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE…it’s the first chapter of a story i’m gonna tell you, the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life. this is where we begin.”

Lorde will perform “Green Light” when she visits “SNL” on March 11. She will then hit the road, performing at festivals including Coachella, Governors Ball, and Bonnaroo.

Lorde made her debut in 2013 with Pure Heroine, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, led by the success of “Royals,” which soared to No. 1 on the Hot 100.

Melodrama is due this summer.
