Jennifer Hudson Joins 'The Voice'

J-Hud is coming to “The Voice.”

After serving as coach on the U.K. version, Jennifer Hudson has joined the American cast for season 13 of the NBC program. The superstar, who once appeared as a contestant on “American Idol,” is set to show out on “The Voice” this fall, along with fellow coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Miley Cyrus.

“In tears thinking of what this means and represents to me and knowing and walking the journey,” Hudson wrote on Instagram. “Wow, who would of thought after being a contestant, that one day, I would be sitting in one of those chairs from the U.K. To the u.s! Only God!!!! Oh but I made it!”

Her past, from “American Idol” and beyond, makes her quite the candidate for “The Voice,” according to NBC’s alternative and reality group president, Paul Telegdy.

“Jennifer is an extraordinary vocal talent and one of the premier voices of our time,” Telegdy told The Hollywood Reporter. “She embodies the experience, expertise, positivity and sheer talent that ‘The Voice’ stands for. Her exceptional skills as a singer and actress have extended to film, television and Broadway, which makes her an incredible addition and a natural fit for our show.”

The announcement comes just as ABC announced that it’s reviving “American Idol” for the 2017-2018 season. Hudson was a favorite on “American Idol” in season 3 before she was voted off. Nevertheless, J-Hud has crafted a multifaceted career since the series, dropping three solo albums and winning an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role in Dreamgirls.

More recently, she joined “The Voice U.K.” and won the competition in her first year. Later this year, she is set to release her fourth album featuring the lead single “Remember Me.”
