Remy Ma Preps Sophomore Album: 'I Want to Tell My Story'

  /  06.29.2017

It’s been more than a decade since Remy Ma released her debut, There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story, but BET’s newly-crowned “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” is finally ready to return with her sophomore album, Seven Winters & Six Summers.

Inspired by the amount of time she spent in prison, the upcoming album is set to be a true-to-life depiction of her time behind bars. It’s an album that she’s crafting with the same carefree spirit that she had when she entered the game, albeit with a more refined perspective.

“When I did my first album, I felt like, ‘This is about me. I wanna do what I feel and what I want to do. I don’t want to conform to what everyone else is doing.’ With Seven Winters & Six Summers, it’s the same exact thing,” she told Rap-Up at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. “I don’t want to dwell on what people expect to hear or what people want to hear. I want to tell my story the way that it is.

“I don’t want to water it down and I don’t want to hype it up for the sake of hype,” she continued. “I just think that, a lot of times with artists, we get pressured sometimes to do certain songs. I pretty much have gone in there with an ‘I-Don’t-Give-a-Fuck-About-Anything’ attitude. I love the way it’s coming together.”

According to Remy, fans who are looking for a lyrically-detailed account of her experiences are in for a treat. “The people that want to hear that journey, from point A to point B, and the growth,” she added, “I think that they’ll be very happy.”

While the Bronx MC has been working on her long-awaited sophomore album, she’s also been in a war of words with Nicki Minaj. Including slights from both sides, the battle is ongoing. But when asked about where she stands on the feud, Remy — who fired off her “shETHER” and “Another One” disses earlier this year — said she’s simply living her life through it all.

“I’m just here,” she said. “I go from day-to-day. I do what I do. I live my life. Some people are stuck in a time warp that keeps playing over and over like a bad day for them. I just do my thing. However, I feel that day is how I feel and it is what it is.”

Remy has yet to announce a release date for Seven Winters & Six Summers. However, Plata o Plomo, her joint project with Fat Joe, is out now.
