Drake Surprises Heart Surgery Patient for Her Birthday

  /  08.21.2018

Drake made a birthday wish come true for a young fan when he visited her in Chicago as she was waiting for a heart transplant.

The Scorpion rapper surprised 11-year-old Sofia Sanchez when he walked into her room at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. “I didn’t talk for a minute. I was like, is this real or fake?” said Sanchez. “He’s like, ‘It’s me, Drake.’ I’m like ‘Oh my God!'”

In a statement, the hospital revealed that the two “bonded over Justin Bieber, basketball, and Drake’s two dogs. Then they took selfies, exchanged autographs, and together they sang his hit song, ‘God’s Plan,’ Sofia’s favorite.”

Sanchez was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which can lead to heart failure. She had open heart surgery to connect a VAD, or ventricular assist device, and is currently waiting for a new heart.

Just days before Sanchez’ birthday, the hospital shot a video of Sanchez doing the viral “In My Feelings” Challenge with her cousin. She also taped a video message from her hospital bed asking Drake to visit her when he was in town for his concert at the United Center.

The heartwarming moment was also captured on Drake’s Instagram account. “Me and my love Sofia talking about Bieber and Owls and Basketball,” he captioned the photo.

UPDATE: Not only did she fulfill her birthday wish of meeting Drake, but Sofia’s other dream came true. She will be receiving a heart transplant.

Drake reacted to the good news on Sofia’s Instagram, writing, “YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! My love so happy for you.”
