Will Smith Plans 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Reboot

  /  08.13.2015

Will Smith is going back to Bel-Air. The rapper-turned-actor has announced plans for a reboot of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

According to TVLine, Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment is working on a remake of the classic ’90s sitcom for modern times, which is to say, the same old fish-out-of-water concept, but with smart phones.

A pitch is currently being finalized and Overbrook will begin shopping it around in the weeks ahead. Smith would serve as executive producer alongside his Overbrook producing partners James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett, and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday (Aug. 13), NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said that he’d “be happy to talk to Will [Smith] about it,” although the network has not signed on for anything.

The original “Fresh Prince” ran for six seasons on NBC from 1990-1996.
