Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Win Webby Awards

Mr. and Mrs. West were celebrated at the 20th Annual Webby Awards in New York City on Monday (May 16). Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian took home two of the night’s most coveted awards, while other hip-hop and R&B mainstays appeared on the show as well.

Yeezy won the Webby for Artist of the Year, thanks to his cutting-edge contributions to the online music industry. Mr. West wasn’t present, but in the tradition of the show, he did deliver a 5-word acceptance speech. “I can’t stand short speeches,” he said in a pre-taped video.

However, Mrs. West was in attendance at the event at Cipriani Wall St. and also went home a winner in a category that was basically made for her: Break the Internet Award. For her 5-word speech, the model-turned-mogul delivered an on-brand mantra: “Nude selfies ’till I die.”

Elsewhere, director Spike Lee awarded the very first Webby for Social Movement of the Year to #BlackLivesMatters, while Action Bronson presented VICE with the Best Cultural Website honors.

Erykah Badu closed out the show with a musical tribute to Prince, a past Webby Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Against a purple-lit stage, the R&B songstress delivered a cover of “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker” off the late icon’s Sign o’ the Times album.
