Eve Talks Gwen Stefani Tour, Women in Rap, & Marriage on 'Wendy'

  /  07.13.2016

Fresh off hosting and performing at VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors,” Eve stopped by “The Wendy Williams Show” on Wednesday to dish on a variety of topics including her “This Is What the Truth Feels Like Tour” with Gwen Stefani, which kicked off last night.

The Philly rapstress opened up about why she feels a tour with her “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” collaborator is “the best” for her right now. The trek is set to continue in Virginia Beach on July 16 and wrap on Oct. 15 at L.A.’s Forum.

Watch E-V-E talk about new music, her ex Stevie J, and her marriage to Maximillion Cooper in the interview below.

On “Hip Hop Honors”: “I think it’s amazing that they did the program. The show is way long overdue. Also, right now, the state of hip-hop is too male-driven. There’s too much testosterone. There’s no feminine voice. There are some females but they need to come up more. I’m girls forever. I’m girl power all day.”

On Gwen Stefani: “Last night was the first show. We both were so excited. It’s literally the same energy.”

On touring with Gwen: “When I got the call for this tour, I actually was surprised. I haven’t talked to Gwen, physically, in years. I was like, ‘That’s kind of amazing.’ My plan was to do music this summer and put it out anyway. This is the best way. Why not do it with someone fun who I know is not gonna be dramatic and crazy backstage?”

On ex Stevie J: “It’s weird how I don’t remember any of that.”

On receiving interracial marriage backlash: “I did. I get it. It was more than I expected. At this day and age, I was like, ‘Wow.’ But at the same time, I get it. I understand it. I come from hip-hop. I come from Philly.”

On having children with Maximillion Cooper: “We can’t wait. We have been talking about it. We feel settled. It’s been two years now. We feel really settled. I can’t wait for it to happen. When it’s meant to be, it’ll be.”
