Cash Money Ordered to Pay $1.1 Million in Jay Sean Royalties
Cash Money Records has to pay up. While Lil Wayne continues his legal battle with his longtime label, Orange Factor Music just won a $1.1 million judgement against Birdman’s empire.
OFM produced several Jay Sean songs, including “Down,” “Fire,” “Do You Remember,” and “Lights Off,” according to TMZ. And they sued Cash Money for not paying royalties. The judge has ordered for the money to be paid within 21 days.
Sean left Cash Money in 2014. “I had and still maintain a great relationship with Slim and Baby [CEOs of Cash Money],” he told Billboard at the time of his departure. “They believed in me and my talent and our partnership obviously garnered a lot of pop success.
“It got to the point where I was chasing pop success and ‘the smash’ when really my heart wasn’t in it anymore,” he added. “That’s not why I got into this game.”
Jay Sean is still making music. Just this month, he released his Sean Paul-assisted single “Make My Love Go.”
Meanwhile, Lil Wayne is still pursuing legal action against Cash Money, while reportedly reconciling with his mentor, Birdman.
