Wale Speaks Out on Music Industry: 'It Will Take Your Soul'

Wale is “tired” of the music industry.

The MMG rapper shared—and then deleted—a lengthy post on Instagram, denouncing the industry and its effects.

“Tired,” he wrote. “I’m tired. I tried this music industry will take your soul then make you want leave … ni**as don’t respect intelligence … they’ll ask for ‘this or that’ and you deliver it they’ll say it never happened .. let me air out some ppl .. it’ll make headlines. let me uplift some people it’ll get buried quicker than u can say ‘leanmollyxan’ they’ll kill you and then worship you when you gone.”

On Twitter, Folarin also added: “Ni**as only fuck wit u when ur face on that Teeshirt …this whole shit fake.”

It’s unclear where these comments stem from, but it’s unlikely that they’re rooted in his relationship with Maybach Music Group. Over the weekend, Wale celebrated his MMG boss Rick Ross’s birthday in Georgia and shared kind words about him on Twitter.

“Want to wish my mentor, my teacher one of the greatest people in my life a happy Gday,” he wrote. “Thank you for all you do for us.”

Last month, J. Cole seemed to address Wale’s disappointment with the industry on “False Prophets.” “I got a homie, he a rapper, and he wanna win bad,” raps Cole. “He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that’s been had / By all the legends, so every time I see him, he stressin’ / Talkin’ ’bout, ni**as don’t f**k with him, that shit is depressing.”

Folarin seemed to agree that the song was about him. On “Groundhog Day,” he rapped about being “the most highly underrated” rapper of this generation, while saying he would still play Cole’s music despite the apparent diss.

Since “Groundhog Day,” Wale has released a slew of new tracks, including “Running Back” with Lil Wayne. Unless his issues with the industry cause a change of plans, Folarin is reportedly gearing up to drop his next album SHINE: Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy at some point this year.
