Ed Sheeran Performs 'Shape of You' on 'The Tonight Show'

Fresh off the release of his new album ÷, Ed Sheeran celebrated with a performance on “The Tonight Show” on Friday (March 3).

This time, the British crooner ditched the classroom instruments and opted for his acoustic guitar. Backed by a band and backup singers, he performed the chart-topping smash, surrounded by blue and orange lighting.

Released Friday, ÷ features “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill” as well as the previously released “How Would You Feel (Paean).” It’s already poised to top the Billboard 200 with the year’s biggest debut. Initial forecasts have it selling anywhere between 300,000 and 425,000 equivalent album units.

As fans enjoy the album, Sheeran doesn’t seem to care how critics receive it. “I was self-conscious about it on my first album, because I’d never had any success, I’d never sold any records, never sold a ticket, and I was terrified that it would be over in an instant,” he said. “The album got panned by the critics and I was like: ‘Fuck, this is it.’ But now I’m at a point where, even if I get a one-star review for every album I release for the rest of my life, I’ll still be able to play music.”
