Beyoncé Announces 'Formation Scholars' Scholarship Program

  /  04.25.2017

Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation. In honor of the one-year anniversary of LEMONADE, Beyoncé has announced “Formation Scholars,” a new scholarship program for young women going into the 2017-2018 school year.

The scholarship fund is meant to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious, and confident,” according to Beyonce.com.

In its inaugural year, the scholars will come from four different schools: Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design, and Spelman College.

“Four scholarships will be awarded, one per college, to female incoming, current, or graduate students pursuing studies in the creative arts, music, literature, or African-American studies,” reads a statement.

It is currently unclear how much money will go towards each scholarship winner, as noted by NPR.

Released on April 23 of last year, LEMONADE continues to make waves. Beyond the scholarship fund it inspired, the album also recently won a prestigious Peabody Award.
