Fergie Responds to National Anthem Backlash: 'I Tried My Best'
After getting lambasted for her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Fergie addressed her less-than-stellar performance at Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.
“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” said the former Black Eyed Peas frontwoman. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

Fergie was ridiculed for her take on the national anthem. Some even called it the worst performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by a celebrity. Comedian Roseanne Barr quipped: “Who saw Fergie’s national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game? I think mine was better lowkey.”

Several NBA players and celebrity fans in attendance were seen chuckling or holding back laughter during the botched performance. The criticism got so bad that Fergie disabled comments on her most recent Instagram posts, including a series of images from the game.
N.E.R.D also performed during the NBA All-Star Game. The trio of Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo, and Shay Haley put on a career-spanning medley with a special appearance from Migos during the halftime show.
