Ariana Grande Opens Up About Her Exes on New Song 'thank u, next'

  /  11.03.2018

Ariana Grande is on to the next one.

Less than three months after dropping her album Sweetener, the pop powerhouse is back and getting personal on her new song “thank u, next.” Over the upbeat instrumental, she addresses her high-profile relationships with Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Mac Miller, and her former fiancé Pete Davidson.

“Thought I’d end up with Sean / But he wasn’t a match,” she sings on the Victoria Monét-penned track. “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh / Even almost got married / And for Pete I’m so thankful / Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel.”

But instead of being bitter, she’s grateful to her exes for what they taught her. “One taught me love / One taught me patience / And one taught me pain / Now I’m so amazing,” she sings.

She’s moved on and found a new love within herself. “I know they say I move on too fast / But this one gon’ last,” she sings. “‘Cause her name is Ari / And I’m so good with that / She taught me love / She taught me patience / How she handles pain / That shit’s amazing.”

thank u, next is also the title of Grande’s upcoming album, the follow-up to August’s Sweetener, which she’s been teasing on Twitter.

Starting next spring, Grande will return to the road on her “Sweetener World Tour.” The 42-date North American arena trek kicks off March 18 in Albany, NY and continue through June 18 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
