Childish Gambino Says 'This Is America' Tour Will Be His Last

  /  09.07.2018

Childish Gambino kicked off his “This Is America” tour with Rae Sremmurd on Thursday night (Sept. 6) at the Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, Georgia.

The Grammy-winning rapper-actor opened his set by debuting two new tracks, “Algorhythm” and “All Night.” Earlier in the week, he emailed the songs to ticket holders for free download.

During Thursday’s opener, he also performed his chart-topping hit “This Is America” and music from his 2011 debut Camp, as well as his latest singles, “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer,” for which he recently released an animated video.

He also confirmed that it would be the last time he will tour as Childish Gambino. “If you’re at this show, think you know this is the last Gambino tour ever,” he told fans. “This is not a concert. This is fucking church.”

In January, Glover announced that he would retire the Childish Gambino moniker upon the release of his upcoming fourth studio album.

“I stand by that,” he said during a post-Grammys press conference. “I’m making another project right now, to make, but I like endings. I think they’re important to progress.”

The North American tour continues Saturday at the United Center in Chicago before hitting cities across North America including Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, Houston, and Los Angeles, wrapping Oct. 26 in New Orleans.
