Fugees Announce Reunion Tour Celebrating 25th Anniversary of 'The Score'

  /  09.21.2021

Ready or not, the Fugees are returning to the stage for the first time in over a decade.

The legendary hip-hop group consisting of Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel have reunited for their first world tour in 25 years and first shows in 15 years to celebrate the anniversary of their classic 1996 album The Score.

The international trek will officially kick off Nov. 2 in Chicago and includes stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, Paris, and London before heading to Africa, with the final shows in Nigeria and Ghana in December.

But first they will perform an intimate pop-up show at an undisclosed location in New York City on Wednesday, Sept. 22 in support of Global Citizen Live, which will air on Sept. 25.

“The Fugees have a complex but impactful history. I wasn’t even aware the 25th anniversary had arrived until someone brought it to my attention,” Ms. Lauryn Hill said in a statement. “I decided to honor this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”

Added Wyclef, “As I celebrate 25 years with the Fugees, my first memory was that we vowed, from the gate, we would not just do music we would be a movement. We would be a voice for the un-heard, and in these challenging times, I am grateful once again, that God has brought us together.”

Upon its release in February 1996, The Score peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned two Grammy Awards, with singles including “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not,” and “Fu-Gee-La.” The seven-time platinum album has sold over 22 million copies worldwide and remains the best-selling album ever by a hip-hop group.

Following The Score, Hill released her solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998. The group disbanded after the release of their 2005 single “Take It Easy.” They last performed together during a Grammy kickoff concert in February 2006 in L.A.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. local time.
