New Music: Lupe Fiasco f/ Skylar Grey – ‘Words I Never Said’![]() Lupe Fiasco lights a fire on “Words I Never Said,” the politically-charged second single from his long-awaited album Lasers, due March 8. The Alex Da Kid production, described by Lupe as “a big, controversial record,” tackles hot button issues including the war on terror, the failing economy, and education. “We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth/ So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you,” spits the Chi-town MC over the hard-edged beat. Singer-songwriter Skylar Grey cries out on the hook: “It’s so loud inside my head with words that I should have said/ As I drown in my regrets, I can’t take back the words I never said.” Soak up their thought-provoking words below.

This sounds like “Castle Walls” a bit. All of Alex da Kid stuff sounds depressing and all of them “Coming Home” “Airplanes” “Love the Way You Lie”, etc. have this depressing tone. He needs to switch it up, its getting old, quick.

@oldjames well Lupe has always be political, but clearly the song is called “Words I Never Said” means these words are inside his head…you get it? lol he’s not really saying them, he’s thinking them :)

I get what you’re saying, point taken. I listened to it again, and I really do love most of the song, its just the first verse that kind of seemed a little unnecessary and blatant. But I do enjoy the song for the most part.

Skylars part is fire, I can’t wait for an album. I’m not sure about Lupe though… It kinda flatlined for me and Skylar kept bringing it back.

Damn, so many of you guys are so narrow minded for real. An artist doesn’t have to be just one dimensional. Who the fuck cares if Lupe puts out a “mainstream” track once in a while? Who the fuck cares if this is “political”? There track record isn’t meant to be perfect. People develop their sound and adapt based on the environment they’re presented in. Open up your perspective people. God damn…

@Listen
Its hypocritical, He bashes capitalism in his rhymes yet his “Trilly and Truley” jackets coming out are going to cost over $4000…..hmmm who can afford that? Bashes the side effects of drinking soda, yet literally dances and raps in his pepsi commercial for the superbowl coming up…….but ok lupe

This is too dope, and I know that wasn’t Lupe, but if Kanye was on the remix, along with Nas it’d be something serious!

If anything Lupe attacks the morals of people in capitalism not the structure it self. So what he doesn’t like big banks now he can’t sell jackets get real, and while you’re there, get a legitimate point.

Alex Da Kid needs to change his beats, he uses exactly the same kick and drums in every songs. But Lupe does his job, and he does it well!

Not the soda is killin of the braincells, the pills are. Need to connect the whole story together, not just with the line before that one.

You need to understand, to get his message across, he needs something that everyone will like, that will get in the charts and on the radio, not just something for true hip hop heads. We already know he’s lyrically sick, listen to his previous albums.

Words that I need to say: Lupe just did it big. The track is what it is to true hiphop_ the track is therapy to the other shit on the airwaves.
Great wordplay, the truth in his voice and lyrics.
Do the remix with dead prez!
