Rihanna Cranks Up the Volume at ‘LOUD’ Tour Kickoff

Rihanna

Rihanna brought the noise to Baltimore for the first stop of her “LOUD” tour at 1st Mariner Arena on Saturday (June 4). The North American trek was quite a change from last year’s “Last Girl on Earth” outing, replacing the dark theme with a colorful playground. Following sets from J. Cole and Cee Lo Green, the red head kicked things off with “Only Girl (In the World),” emerging in a shiny blue coat before revealing a beaded bikini underneath.

She rose above the crowd on a piano for “Love the Way You Lie,” threw it back to her island roots with “Rude Boy,” and invaded the stage with pink guns and a tank for “Hard.” One lucky female fan even got a lap dance from the superstar during “Skin.”

And you know it wouldn’t be a Rihanna show without the fashion. The Barbados beauty transformed the stage into a catwalk with her numerous wardrobe changes throughout the evening—from a yellow dress and thigh-high boots (“Hate That I Love You”) to a military cap and jacket (“Hard”) to a denim bikini and ripped shorts (“Rude Boy”) and a tuxedo for a cover of Prince’s “Darling Nikki.”

After dazzling fans with hit after hit and a spectacular display, one thing was clear: Little Miss Sunshine was back and having a blast.

True this. She rather clearly has nothing better else to do. I call it the ‘twisted stan’ syndrome. It’s an affliction that effects the common man/woman in the most powerful way. Lol.

Don’t get me wrong, Rihanna has some great songs and I own her albums but I would NEVER NEVER NEVER pay to see her live. It’s so disappointing to watch these videos because it makes me wonder why she’s so successful because she does not bring any energy to her live performances. Yes, she shakes her ass and she looks AMAZING doing it but I think it pretty much ends there. Her vocals live are just horrendous.

    [Reply]

    Name here Reply:

@Kyle, if she sings so bad her record company/award shows would make her lip sync like britney spears

    [Reply]

    Dave Reply:

@Name here, That’s not necessarily true. It’s a whole lot of people that sing horrible live, that don’t necessarily lip sync. Rihanna lip sync parts through these performances. Especially on the powerful vocal chorus’s. Maybe Rihanna & her team is delusional.

Are some of you Nicki fans fucking serious , Rih had most her concepts long before Nicki. If any of you dumb bum bitches went to the LAST GIRL on Earth tour you would notice that she reuse & remodle some of her old props. Rihanna cover Prince on her last tour as well and that’s nothing new , she just did an extension of it ,Just like the Helmet she always wore in her hard set, she just change the color an the style. You bum fools need to get a life this girl is going no where, even if she stops her music career she seems to have a promising one in acting from the looks of it , hollywood is already knocking on her door step so stay pressed.

I saw Rihanna on The Last Girl on Earth Tour last year. Rihanna had every thing a great Pop performance needs [stage props, great outfits, great effects and pyrotechnics] but she lacked the 3 ingredients a great performer has to have [vocals, stage presence and choreography]. Rihanna was so boring, but everything else was exciting. Yes her vocals really improved, but she was still straining, especially when she sang her ballads, but overall, it was on okay concert. I gave it a 7.5/10. Now will I see her on the Loud Tour, no. My favorite Rihanna album is Rated R, but my favorite era is Loud and then Good Girl Gone Bad, but this era seems to forced.

    [Reply]

    Kyle Reply:

@antonio, very well said. I guess when the 3 major ingredients are lacking it’s good to have good effects to make up for it. There are so many things that go into a good show and I know Rihanna’s team is putting in a lot of effort to make it a hit. “Rated R” is my favorite album by her too. I really appreciated the darker theme that she was going for and it showed that she had a little bit of substance as an artist.

@beyonce ure right she’ll always be known as not beyonce cs she aint flopping.

  24. Kelly

I’m sorry but I’m not impressed by her tour I think she needs to try harder in her performance and dance skill if she continues this way its sad to say this but beyonce will take over no matter how many fans rihanna has. She will lose respect of other people and beyonce will look like the best in the world.

    [Reply]

    ME AGAIN Reply:

    @Kelly,

It is ridiculous to compare them. Beyonce quite obviously has a good 8-10 years on Rihanna being in the spotlight and performing on a grand scale. It is also no revelation that Beyonce is the better and more consistent vocalist. However, they both occupy a piece of music history in their own right. Both are adored by their own set of fans and both will continue to enjoy longevity if they want it.

She relies heavily on her props & graphics b/c she’s a weak performance. Her vocals were NOT on point but that’s nothing new. No wonder people don’t want to buy her tickets…

now…u see how she killed the end of LTWYL. and Darling Nikki. I wish the label will let her tap into that voice more often, because its there-she has it.

    [Reply]

  29. Where they at?

…I’m glad i didnt buy a ticket. im a huge rihanna fan, but as someone said…theres really no difference from last girl on earth. the same exact songs, plus 7 more, she dosent dance, she jives alot and open her legs. it’s not entertainment. usher entertainment, gaga entertainment, pussycat dolls entertainment, even britney who lips sings…entertainment. she’s not bringing anything hot to the stage, just plain boring riri

She dose not seem excited about her own concert or is it just me? So why should the fans be. Like pay attention to the audience reaction they don’t seem excited. Her hair is to much in her face ppl wanna see her not her wig. Its like she’s just relying on looking pretty and giving a shake & cat walk here and there. I know she could do better. On the bright side looks like she tried to put emotion in her slow songs. I think Rihanna a nice young women I hope this isn’t going to be her down fall and she stops trying to hard to be sexy because she use to just be. She needs to come back down to earth

I love Rihanna but I have to be brutally honest. I know the navy is going to be mad at me but, I cannot bite my tongue. Rihanna is lacking in the energy department, shouting hey Baltimore is not doing it. I am an Islander just like riri but she needs to break away from that style of choreography. If she’s going to continue to the wining she needs to commit to it 100%. It’s appropriate on some songs but not throughout an entire set. If she want this tour to be successful and shut the haters up once for all, she needs to amp up her performance 200%. I love the color scheme but this is a play on the last girl on earth tour with neon colors. She needs to watch play back footage of her last concert tour and this tour, and make the assessment like most of her fans are doing.

I know she has a dedicated fan base that will be down for her no matter what, but what will happen when the next hot thing comes around. I will hate to see her wind up in Ciara category, she needs to keep the wow factor coming at all times. It is tough remaining on top when all the pop/r&b singers is gunning for her throne. Show them why your considered one of the best and why your reign won’t let up.

I love you Rihanna but I am just being an honest fan, I will remain loyal to you though. This is just constructive criticism.

I don’t think you can solely judge her from these videos. I think you would actually have to be there and experience it to give a proper review. These comments are just so crazy because I’ve heard and read so MANY great reviews from people that were actually there and they’re not even fans/stans. But, whatever.

And for the dumbass cunts who continually comment on Rihanna’s posts, GET A LIFE. It be the same people commenting on her shit, if she’s so wack why do you keep watching her shit dumb fucks. I’m not even gonna call ya haters ya are fucking supporters. She appreciates it I’m sure. :)

she and her crew lookd and performed to perfection, hate on haters because that is what haters do, they always looks for faults in other people to make their miserable lives seem better. rihanna has to be doing something right for that many people to come out to see her show.

We were there and she was AMAZING. Yes there was an ofnd af note here and there but it just proved she was singing live and is an imperfect human being – as are we all. She has amazing dancers and they helped keep the energy level going – not all performers dance to every syllable of their songs, but if the overall image on the stage is good then you don’t really notice. She danced very well – and even more importantly – worked the entire stage. And came into the crowd on two different occassions. I didn’t see her previous concert so I can’t comment to the comparisons. We were greatly entertained by Riri – something I can’t really say about Cee-Lo.
