Trey Songz to Make Big-Screen Debut in ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D’

Trey Songz

Trey Songz is known for delivering thrills on stage, and now he’ll be cooking up frights on the big screen. The R&B crooner is set to make his acting debut in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Songz will play one of the leads in Lionsgate’s 3D horror flick, the latest revisualization of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic about a group of teenagers who encounters a family of cannibals in Texas.

The 26-year-old singer will star as the male lead and the boyfriend of actress Alexandra Daddario in the Millennium/Nu Image film directed by John Luessenhop (Takers). It will hit theaters on October 5, 2012.

Songz will get to show off his physical, romantic, and heroic sides in the movie, which shoots later this month in Shreveport, Louisiana, with a group of fresh-faced actors.

In between his foray into Hollywood, Trey is also working on music and is expected to deliver his fifth album this fall.

Why can’t singers just stick to singing and actors just stick to acting? I like Trey Songz, but he is such a brand name that I can’t watch him as someone else. It’ll always feel like I’m watching Trey.

@Lisa, I mean there is such a thing as creative growth and when that happens artists want to branch out to expressing it in different ways I mean nobody said nothing about Beyonce, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Usher, or any other singer who started acting and if you really wanna know the truth about it I think he’d make a good actor I mean he has been in a few other movies, right.

@Music, Usher, Beyonce and Chris are horrible actors though! I’ve never seen Mary, so IDK, but must can’t crossover. They started out as singers (I’m talking to Chris about his rapping, as well) for a reason.

@Music, about EVERY, and I repeat, EVERY singer-turned-actor/actress there has been talked. Both negatively and positively.

See, the thing is singing is a completely different craft than acting. Very few people are talented to the point where they can do an above average job at both.

I understand that you would want to expand your horizone and everything, but there are other ways to do that.
I am not trying to tell anyone what to do with their carreer, but I just think it’ll ruin, or, a little less dramatic, put a label on him as “another singer who thought he could be an actor as well”.

I just don’t understand the motivation behind acting, when they know damn well that they will dissapoint regardless, ’cause their name is too established as an entertainer to be seen and have some credibility as a fictional character.

@Lisa, You know you are entitled to your opinion and I do agree with you about that but that doesn’t mean that they should just stick to singing just because they name is out like that and people are used to them as “That Boy” or “That Girl” if they wanna act I say let them act.

@Music, don’t take what I say out of context. Like I said, I’m trying to tell anyone what to do with their carreer. That’s up to them.

Woow a movie…Trey songz is making big moves. To be honest I hope he doesn’t dissapoint us and hopefully he’s not cheesy because alot of music artist turn film, aren’t great. I bet Nicki Minaj, Jessica Ferguson, and Jessie J would be great in movies though…based on their performances in their videos etc. I can see it.

@mr_rosewood, hell, Chris didn’t even survive 15 minutes in that movie.

I agree w/@Lisa to a certain extent I think the brand these singers build has a great overshadowing effect when they hit the big screen. It may not be they can act but we can’t get over the fact that “LOL Beyonce just cursed!”.

@cranberry so what about Ice Cube, Queen Latifah, Common, Alicia Keys, 50 cent, & Jennifer Hudson? They are all good actors & actresses. Beyonce, T.I., Chris Brown, Mary J, & Usher still have to prove themselves but u can’t knock ALL musicians.

I’ll reserve my judgement of his acting abilities for when I actually see them. I will say he did a good job in the “Your Side Of The Bed” video, I don’t know how he’ll do in a full fledged film. Although let me start by saying this is a horror movie, another Texas Chainsaw film at that which the last few haven’t been anything amazing, and it’s cashing in on this 3D gimmick, so I wouldn’t expect anything mind blowing from it anyway really.

    [Reply]

  19. JHP

*Oh and I highly doubt he’s getting killed at the beginning because he’s playing the “male lead” so if he dies it’ll be towards the end.

Good luck to him, it’s not easy to master singing and acting to an exceedingly good ability. Most usually make cameo’s.
