M.I.A. releases the unfinished demo “27” as a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse and all her friends that died at the young age of 27. “i recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out. its a unfinished demo. R.I.P A.M.Y.,” wrote the Sri Lankan star.

Maya tells the story of a troubled friend who abused drugs and alcohol and eventually committed suicide. The somber tune features haunting lyrics such as, “All rock stars go to heaven/ You said you’ll be dead at 27.”

People can’t even begin to comprehend how much of MIA’s original material is bitten off by commercial artists like Rihanna and Bey. Seriously, youtube her and listen to all her stuff. Just cos she does it in her own way, how she wants to do it i.e. not bubblegum pop crap, she gets overlooked. I’m not a huge MIA fan but props when props are due.
