Trey Songz to Showcase Storytelling, Rapping on ‘Chapter 5’

Trey Songz

Trey Songz is turning a new page with his fifth album Chapter 5. While the R&B crooner is moving on, he hasn’t forgotten his past.

Troy Taylor, who discovered Trey when he was 15 and executive produced all of his albums, spoke to Rap-Up.com about the project’s direction. “I think Trey is coming into his own now,” he said. “He was always taught to know what he wants and he was always taught to know how he wants to sound, and I think Chapter 5 represents the storytelling of how he feels and his emotions and just everyday life that people go through.”

Expect to see continuations of storylines from previous albums. “What we’re gonna do is elaborate on other songs. ‘Can’t Be Friends’ was a huge smash, but on Chapter 5 we’re gonna maybe go into a little bit more of the girl he was talking about. We once had a song called ‘Black Roses’ on Ready; we’re gonna tap on it to tell you a little bit more of the story. So Chapter 5 represents elaborating.”

Trey has been flooding the Internet with his rap remixes to songs such as “Gucci Gucci” and “Ni**as in Paris,” and he plans to showcase more of his rhyming skills on Chapter 5. “I took a poll on Twitter to see if people wanted to hear more of Trey rapping and they said it was cool,” shared Taylor. “He was a rapper first when he was 15. When he came to me the whole question was do you think I can be a singer, and when I heard him it was definitely.”

Chapter 5, the follow-up to last year’s Passion, Pain & Pleasure, is due in 2012. Trey also stars in the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, in theaters October 5, 2012.

yall are mad because TREY started the mixtape and rapping thing a way before FISTOPHER.
If FISTOPHER wanna be TREY so bad he should start actually singing live and stop his male cheerleader number since he claims to be a singer.

Ok, I guess just hope he be singing on it too, a little rapping and a lot of singing, then I will be happy fan!!!! Right now I just want to hear some new music from him like songs need to be leak to get a feeling of where Chapter 5 is going.

I been thinking, I think it will be like Chris Brown’s F.A.M.E. cd, where he had a r&b cd and a rap song, look at me now, and Drake’s Thank Me Later cd, that is a rap cd but had a r&b song find your loving, so maybe it will be 99% of singing and 1% of rapping on Trey’s Chapter 5, let’s pray on it, for those who loves his singing.

It’s funny that people claim Trey copying Chris, but anyone with eyes to see will see that Chris is the real copycat!! Trey has been rapping since 2003, with mixtapes to prove it. Since Chris has been back he has been copying Trey with the rapping and sex songs, even went as far as making Wet the Bed with Luda that draws comparisons to Sex Room with Trey n Luda, body to body with Ace Hood, which draws comparisons with Ride with Trey n Ace hood smh. Chris is dickeating Trey and people are too blind by Chris, because that is all they know to see this.

Also boys in Detention a rap mixtape by Chris came out 2011. Trey has been doing this for years, with the latest coming out in 2010. So who is copying who? All these dudes are Trey’s sons. Stop stanning and see that Chris is a Trey wannabe.

@Triniti, You do realize Trey has been doing this right? Check out Drake’s old mixtapes and you will see this. But you are probably a new Drake fan and have no clue lmao.

    Triniti Reply:

@LuvIt, Actually, idiot, I’m not a new Drake fan. I do, however, get tired of all this indecisiveness, and Trey’s rapping skills aren’t revolutionary. Damn stan.

    LuvIt Reply:

@Triniti, You a dumbass if you mentioned Take Care knowing damn well Trey been doing this. Lmao like Drake’s rapping or singing is revolutionary asshole. I like Drake but u just came in here to hate on Trey with your hating ass.

he needs to be himself. and quit trying to imitate other artist.

@REALTALK, Um. Trey was also singing ans rapping on Trey Day. People didn’t get it. He was ahead of his time.

    [Reply]

    Yeah Reply:

    @REALTALK,
how is he imitating when he started off rapping? his second cd has rapping on it “Wonder Woman” “Long gone Missing” <– that was 2007
he has rap mixtape waaaaay before CB

    face the facts smh

    [Reply]

    Ice Reply:

@Yeah, I just downloaded Trey Day yesterday and I forgot all about “Wonder Woman” had rapping on it. If he wants to be diverse and rap, there should be nothing wrong with it. Why do people feel the need to compare all the time, just let them do their thing and enjoy it.

    [Reply]

    Mrs. Tremaine Aldon Neverson Reply:

@Yeah, long gone missing sure do have rapping in it. So I think this cd will be fine if he raps and sings in the same song, like long gone missing and wonder woman.

Awww Tremaine can’t wait to hear something new from you! Breezy is in a class by himself so I dnt think Trey is trying to be like him but it is funny that he wants to show us he can rap too now!

R&B singers rapping isn’t anything new. R. Kelly & Usher have experimented with rap from time to time, Tyrese did a full rap side to his album. Chris & Trey both dabbled with rapping before they started singing, ain’t no one biting no one just shut up with that. Both CB & Trigga’s raps are pretty decent, and I think it could potentially be a good addition to their album

    [Reply]

    Ice Reply:

@JHP, you brought up a good point, Usher has had hip-hop in his music since My Way and Nice and Slow.

TreySongz my SupaStar!!! Look Trey has his own unique talents aNd has aNd is creating himself as an artist. Hes my first and my last (to see him Do it like he Do it), Lol Smiley Face of Love Faces, i dream Blind and You just need me Gurrrrl, O and i have my Red Lipstick on so im going to be TTB beyond the break of dawn and thats a side8 (=’s Infinity) just go back and listen to the beginnings of Trey to any one who dosen’t knowX3 about the Trigga ( the whole albums) not just radio because many radio stations stick to one selection of song of an artist and thats not the fulls of and artist being shown. AND ya i like and, CBrown is not made from the same star as Tremaine so the paths are different so to each its own in the Gripping of Fans Hearts. NOTE: The creation of ones Dreams is within the human mind to put it forward, the body to work the works, the soul to know light see you. TreysAngelTriggaBabiey

[...] Rap-Up reports that Trey will showcase more of his rapping skills on his forthcoming album, Chapter 5, due out in 2012, God Willing. [...]

Besides not knowing how to dance, wats stopping trey from going platinum is bad videos. I mean his videos basically falls under the category of porn, explicit or offensive. How does he expect the fans to support him when he keeps offending them? I understand sex sells but in trey’s case it seems he always takes it too far.

When I watch a video, I wanna smile through it. With Trey I always get bored, get mad or whatever.. be that video or performance he’s always so stiff on stage.

I think trey should make a song with Eminem or Christina Aguilera… Break the chain of predictable albums. A lot of people believe when it comes to music his genre racist because the artists he features is always a rapper rapping the 3rd hook. I think its time for him to break tradition if he wants to make it far. That way it’ll give fans who listens to other genre a chance to hear him not just the hip/hop and R&B fans
