While all the bargain hunters were rushing to stores on Black Friday, Mary J. Blige was rising early for her appearance on the “Today” show. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul graced the stage to perform her Drake-assisted single “Mr. Wrong” and discuss her evolution with the sequel to her 1994 album My Life.

“It just proves just how strong we are because on the first My Life album, we weren’t strong at all and that was the beginning of the relationship I had with my fans,” said the R&B songstress, who performed “25/8” at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.

“We were in a very, very dark, negative place. There’s been so much growth and evolution since then, but the one thing that remains consistent is trials and tribulations. We’ve been strong through it all and I felt like the title My Life II is perfect to just celebrate how strong we are and how far we’ve come.”
