A$AP Rocky Talks Meeting Rakim, Influencing Drake, and Staying ‘Pretty’

The livest audience on television got even liver when A$AP Rocky stopped by “106 & Park.” Draped in a fur vest, the fashion-forward MC, whose real name is Rakim, spoke about being named after the legendary MC and how his mother had him sign his diaper as a baby. The day before, he met his namesake for the first time on Angie Martinez’s radio show and had him autograph more Pampers.

The Harlem rapper will join Drake’s “Club Paradise” tour later this month. “Drake reached out to me when I was on the Internet making music, and he was like, ‘Yo, I like what you’re doing and all that. I want you to come on tour with me. I’m influenced by you, I’m inspired,'” he shared.

Expect more big things from Rocky, whose debut will be released on Polo Grounds Music/RCA Records. “I’m just doing what I’ve been doing. I’m being me. Being pretty, that’s what I do.”
