Rihanna Shares Concern for Chris Brown in Oprah Interview

Rihanna and Oprah

Rihanna’s life changed forever on that fateful night in February 2009. In the latest preview from her candid interview with Oprah, the pop star shares some new revelations and explains why she was concerned for her ex-boyfriend.

An emotional Rihanna fought back tears while recalling her breakup with Chris Brown. “I lost my best friend,” she told Oprah during her visit to Barbados to tape “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” “Like everything I knew was switched. Switched in a night. And I couldn’t control that. So I had to deal with that, and that’s not easy for me to understand or interpret. And it’s not easy to interpret on camera, not with the world watching.”

While she was portrayed as the victim, she felt bad for Chris. “I felt protective,” said the “We Found Love” singer. “I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. It was a weird, confusing space to be in because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help, and who’s gonna help him? Nobody’s gonna say he needs help. Everybody’s gonna say he’s a monster without looking at the source. I was more concerned about him.”

Rihanna’s full conversation with Oprah will air Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on OWN.

and as humans all we do is judge, Rihanna was going thru a lot and because we humans where quick to judge she turned into a monster herself and yet humans are continuing to judge.

Just make sure YOU are OK before even trying to help anyone, otherwise you might fall down too. Besides I don’t think he was ever open to get help from anyone let alone from you. He needed/needs help on a personal level but all he seems to care about is his career, fame and fortune. Having said that, love and forgiveness are very noble feelings. Good for you for being the ‘bigger person’. After all, you did get your share of hate, baby girl. Quite a bit. Even though you were a victim. Sometimes you just outghta be a little selfish and put yourself first. Take care, Riri!

    [Reply]

    idk... Reply:

@James, It’s a weird thing with Chris. He was just as vulnerable as Rih is right now for a long time, but with everybody portraying him as a monster and sending him death threats, all he’s done is continue to get frustrated. He does still need help, though, because he doesn’t, to this day, know how to deal with that hatred. It’s always gonna be there, but since then, he hasn’t at all made things easier for himself.

Why is the public so unforgiving of Chris Brown? He apologized, he can’t take it back, he did community service … and I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of OFF-CAMERA heartache and pain he endured, too. What does it take for someone to start over? What if everything you did wrong was held against you for the rest of your life? That’s no way to treat ANYONE. There’s no such thing as “good people” and “bad people”, we’re ALL BAD PEOPLE, separated by those who are repentant, and those who are unrepentant. Chris Brown is sorry. It’s the only time it happened in his life, and he hasn’t done it again since. Take a break from your HATE and send him some positivity.

    [Reply]

No, he isn’t. You don’t sit your sorry ass on television for three years begging for forgiveness, only to call the woman you mercilessly beat a bitch, a whore and a slut in a song because she started dating someone else. You don’t throw a chair through a window if you’re sorry. You don’t wear a chain that says BAM three weeks after you beat someone if you’re sorry. You don’t go jet skiing in Miami two weeks later if you’re sorry. Spare me, please.

Whats wrong with her? he is not the only guy in the world LOL. He is trying to move on and she should do the same. And she should stop constantly shading his girl/his exes/liking pics of them on IG, fav. his tweets because her OBSESSION WITH HIM IS UNHEALTHY.Last but not least, I cant believe people are falling for her crap. If she wanted to help him she would stop bringing that up because how does that interview exactly help him? It doesnt! It just benefit her smh. It just makes people hate him even more. It’s not just the assault but everything involved. At the end of the day she lost her bestfriend, her loved one, they had a story together. @77, Do not bring Queen Bey into this. Rihanna and Chris were close. She still feels the lost of a friendship and relationship that went terribly wrong. You’ve obviously never been in love. People can’t just drop their feelings for a person, no matter how wrong it may be. Beyonce is queen for her talent and because she’s a sincere person, which you are not. So have several seats. Take some notes from the Queen and keep it cute or keep it moving. Oh and don’t forget to sign up for Humanitarian Day and maybe use some of the energy you have for something good on the 19th.

If you keep tearing down the people that need help the most then what? If you had a family member that made a huge mistake are you just gonna leave them for dead or help them become a better person. It’s cause of people like these that people just get worse and worse. Chris has driven himself into a “i don’t care” attitude in order to block out all that hate. He’s tried to stay positive but you and I know he can’t. At some point, he’s gotta start caring and learn how to cope and truly mature.

Alright, clearly Chris needed (and still does, really) help, but … as for being ‘sorry’ … EHHHH. Wouldn’t a regretful person perhaps donate a portion of album profits to charity or maybe a battered women’s shelter? There are people in this world who have done the same thing — and worse — as him, but they don’t skate around it and lash out saying, “Why y’all talking about shit that happened three years ago?” as if it’s nothing. They own up and, subsequently, mature.

He beat her. A photo was released showing her battered face. People are gonna talk about that shit forever.

I will say nothing Rihanna says provides any insight to me because it’s clear as day the girl needs counseling herself. She came from an abusive home and as a result thinks it’s normal for a man to punch, bite and choke you. Chris Brown needs counseling as well because until he GETS IT he’s gonna forever be on Twitter fighting with someone, beefing, getting into legal trouble.

Rihanna could have really come from the incident as a force to be reckoned with and put herself on a global scale that would have made her name infamous. Instead she’s letting drugs and immaturity screw her success up and letting the fact he beat her be the only thing people take from the incident. Nothing of any good came from it and sadly it will probably happen to her again.

I mean the girl does have a life outside Chris Brown, a singing career, you would think she would want to be recognized for that. So while some of you keep harping on the fact that Chris is a woman beater, she will always be known as the victim people want to hear about, nothing else! People may watch the show, people may not, either way, I don’t think this one interview and many others will save Oprah’s network.
